A life without a watch - unthinkable for me!
Since my youth I have had the desire to design and create watches. Later, I was allowed to look behind the scenes several times at renowned watch manufacturers and experience how a mechanical work of art is created from many small individual parts, which precisely displays the time.
Vita
Starting with the founding of berlinomat in 2003, a presentation and marketing platform for Berlin design with over 180 designers, to the founding of the international fashion fair Panorama Berlin in 2011, I had an intense exchange with creative people over the last 20 years and could accompany them in their work and development.
With the Corona Pandemic a break arose for me, space for new things and the chance to realize old desires - designing and creating mechanical wristwatches.
Product idea
Everything starts with an idea ...
...is it unique? Does it create value? Does it fulfill the purpose? Does it appeal to the senses?
Many questions before it starts.
Designing a unique watch - that is, not a typical sports or classic version of a three-hand watch, round or square - that was clear from the start.
A mechanical watch that shows time on discs, with a prominent position for the minutes - for the important moments of the day - these were the driving impulses and at the same time an exciting challenge.
Implementation
The examination of the technical feasibility quickly made it clear to me that for a high-quality and durable product, I needed a partner at my side who was able to make constructive changes to the movement to support and reliably drive the disc design.
The watch manufacturer Damasko took up the challenge from day one and contributed its expertise in developing movements. Within just 18 months, a unique product of German engineering has been created. We were able to underpin the fruits of our collaboration with three patent applications for the Äonic Automat, thus laying the foundation for further models.
